Select Windows delivers prestigious city centre project

Profile 22 fabricator and installer Select Windows has completed a prestigious residential new build development in Birmingham City Centre to deliver the very latest in urban chic.

Commissioned by Birmingham-based Ashford Construction, Select supplied 700 windows and French doors in foiled grey to 140 new apartments in the stylish Granville Street development.

Using Profile 22’s advanced FI 70 mm system, the grey profile provided a sympathetic contrast to existing apartments in the development that had been semi-clad in cedar timber.

Dee Benning, managing director, Select Windows, said: "More and more, developers are calling for new products in varied colours and styles to meet increasingly creative architectural designs.

"Select was able to supply the distinctive grey shade on 70mm profile to the Granville Street site which not only complemented earlier phases of the development that had been delivered in aluminium but also gave an excellent finish with very clean sight lines.

"After recognising the significant savings to be made and also the speed of delivery, the developer chose to go with foiled PVC-U products for the first time which also provide better energy-efficiency and security as well as lower-maintenance costs."

Select has been established in the industry for more than 28 years and Dee explains that there are always new challenges to overcome.

He said: "This project was particularly unusual as we had to fit the windows first before the brickwork was completed.

"In order to overcome this we commissioned specially-designed brackets to work in conjunction with the Metsec construction of the building to allow us to suspend the windows on steel frames and clamp them into place.

"Over the years we have come across a wide range of challenges, particularly within the larger-scale projects but with the right systems in place and a reliable in-house team we have always managed to find the solutions."

Andrew Reid, sales development director, Profile 22 said: "The FI 70mm system from Profile 22 is available in a wide variety of colours and now accounts for almost 20% of all sales. Our coloured range gives architects and developers a wider choice of finishes including dual colour and wood-grain effects.

"Select Windows has overcome the challenges of this project and completed a prestigious new development to set deadlines and specifications."

Select Windows has supplied PVC-U products to the commercial markets since 1980 and through continued investment in products and services now has the capacity to produce around 1000 high quality windows each week.

Heritage secures new Window Energy Ratings

Specialist supplier to the trade, Heritage Trade Frames, has launched its new range of high-performance energy rated windows to help customers grow their market share.

Following ongoing research and development, Heritage is now able to offer a comprehensive range of A, B, C, D and E rated windows, including ‘C’ rated as standard from the beginning of May.

As an established Profile 22 trade fabricator, Heritage uses the flexible FS70 system, as well as the systems company’s recycled composite material (RCM) reinforcement.

RCM replaces steel or aluminium reinforcements in the manufacturing process helping to deliver improved energy-efficiency performance and this makes it easier to achieve a higher Window Energy Rating (WER).

Sean Munsie, managing director, Heritage said: “As consumers become more aware of their carbon footprint, energy rated products are generating new opportunities in the marketplace and moving forward, it is likely that ‘C’ rated windows will become standard for the industry as a whole.

“By determining where the market is headed, we are able to give our customers a heads-up on the new consumer trends and as a result help them future proof their business.”

The Energy Savings Trust suggests that windows rated A, B, or C deliver significant savings to the homeowner as they use a reduced amount of energy, have less of an environmental impact and are subsequently cheaper to run – a powerful consumer message.

Sean said: “In today’s eco-conscious market there is growing consumer demand for more sustainable and energy-efficient products but these don’t just benefit the environment – the industry can take advantage of this strong marketing opportunity to increase its product range and win new business sales.

“Consumers will also benefit from significant reductions in heating bills and with the recent increases in energy prices this message is even more relevant. We are sure that with the right products and marketing mix, WERs will have a pre-primed audience.”

Heritage is committed to providing its customers with the best service possible and with a little forward thinking, Sean believes that the company can keep ahead of the ever-changing market demands.

He added: “As one of the first companies to convert solely to Profile 22’s FS70 system, we have received very positive feedback from our installers about both its aesthetic qualities and advanced performance.

“In today’s climate it is imperative to have the right products on offer and by seizing the opportunities that window energy ratings can provide, installers will be able to secure their place in an increasingly tight market.”
